  • 4 miles with IA 2 south of Sidney. Part of this multiplex will be relocated in the fall of 2006 when a bypass of Sidney opens.
  • History
Designated: November 2, 1931, along parts of US 34 (from Council Bluffs to Glenwood) and IA 4 (I) (from Glenwood to the Missouri line). US 34 and 275 shared about 18 miles of the route until US 34 was re-routed away from the Omaha/Council Bluffs area in 1935.
Paving history: The entire road was paved at the time of designation.
    Major alignment changes:
  • 1939: Extended from Council Bluffs into Omaha on the Ak-Sar-Ben Bridge, sharing the bridge with US 6, US 30A, US 75, and IA 92.
  • 1941: Routed away from the Ak-Sar-Ben Bridge and West Broadway in Council Bluffs onto the South Omaha Bridge and the former IA 367. The old segment into downtown Council Bluffs became IA 375.
  • July 1, 2003: Re-routed onto I-29 and US 34 between the split with IA 92 (I-29 exit #47) and Glenwood, extending the multiplex with US 34 and creating one with I-29. The standalone segment between Council Bluffs and Glenwood became County Road L35.
  • September 2006: Two-lane bypass to the east of Sidney opens (part of which is multiplexed with IA 2)
  • For street alignment changes in Council Bluffs, see Jeff Morrison's Council Bluffs/Omaha Highway Chronology page.
    Upgrades:
  • May 24, 1974: Expressway segment near Glenwood (with US 34) opens. (The segment opened to two lanes on January 26.)
  • Notes
Nebraska and Iowa plan to replace the South Omaha Veterans Memorial Bridge, which dates back from 1935, with a new four-lane bridge that is located about one-half mile north of the current bridge. Completion is scheduled for 2010. More information on the project can be found here.
