(According to Jeff Morrison in September 2002, that wasn't all: "Then, after one block, 383 turns west! This last block is Randall's Main Street. Designated: 1945 Decommissioned: July 1, 2003 Original western terminus: Pacific Junction Original eastern terminus: US 34 southwest of Glenwood; on January 26, 1974, it was moved to the interchange with the relocated US 34 and US 275 in Glenwood after the new US 34 opened. Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the original segment was upgraded from bituminous to paved in 1988. The 1974 extension was entirely paved. Replaced by: County Roads H36 (east-west segment from Pacific Junction to old US 34) and L35 (former US 34 segment). Although the DOT approved the transfer of IA 385 (along with IA 949 and IA 978) to Mills County on February 18, 2003, the signs were still up on June 16. Designated: 1945 Decommissioned: July 1, 2003 Original northern terminus: US 52/IA 3 in Sageville Original southern terminus: US 52/IA 3 north of Dubuque; in September 2002, after the Northwest Arterial (IA 32) extension was completed, IA 386's south end was slightly realigned to end at the same intersection as IA 32. Paving history: Unpaved at designation, it was paved in 1955. Replaced by: County Roads D10 and Y35, locally known as John Deere Road. IA 386 had no directional markers on its entire route, mostly because of the change of direction it took midway through the route. From the northern terminus it ran northeastward to the John Deere Dubuque Works (that segment is now D10), and from there it turned due southward to the other junction with US 52/IA 3 (that segment is now Y35). | This was the designation for the bypassed former US 218 segment through Plainfield, bisected by IA 188, after the four-lane bypass opened. Although it was turned over to local jurisdictions at a DOT meeting on February 18, 2003, transfer was delayed because of road resurfacing and sideroad issues; the actual transfer was completed by November 1, 2003. |

Paving history: The entire road was paved at the time of designation. Replaced by: IA 27. IA 394, which replaced the former County Road W68 in 1980, was multiplexed with IA 27 after its commissioning in 2001. However, all IA 394 signs along the route were removed after the opening of the Donnellson and Argyle bypasses (both parts of the Avenue of the Saints) in February 2004.
