Iowa 340 (I)
Designated: September 1, 1936 Decommissioned: July 1, 2003
Original northern terminus: US 18, later Business US 18/unsigned IA 76, in McGregor
Original southern terminus: Pikes Peak State Park
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, it was paved in 1955.
Replaced by: County Road X56 (IA 340 made a turn eastward into the state park before ending)

Iowa 340 (II)
This designation was given to the former segment of US 34 through Batavia that was bypassed on May 11, 2005. It was transferred to local jurisdictions by the end of 2006.
Iowa 341
Designated: November 9, 1936 Decommissioned: 1988
Original northern terminus: (former) Lost Island Lake State Park
Original southern terminus: US 18 south of Ruthven
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the road was paved in 1938.
Replaced by: County Road N20. A 0.06-mile (or roughly 320-foot) segment between US 18 and the south city limits of Ruthven was still maintained by the state as IA 341 until July 1, 2003.

Designated: December 8, 1936 Decommissioned: 1980
Original northern terminus: Jamaica
Original southern terminus: IA 46 (later 141) in northeastern Guthrie County
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, it was paved in 1957.
Replaced by: County Road P30; it was created after IA 46 (I) was relocated.
Iowa 342 (II)
This designation was given to the former segment of US 63 through Eddyville (between the north city limits and IA 137) that was bypassed on July 12, 2004. The road was transferred to the city by the end of 2005.

Designated: June 30, 1937 Decommissioned: December 6, 1980
Original northern terminus: Northboro
Original southern terminus: IA 333 in southwestern Page County
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the entire road was gravel at the time of decommissioning (but has since been paved).
Replaced by: County Road M44; it replaced a dislocated segment of IA 333. It was decommissioned at the same time that IA 333 was paved in Page County.
Iowa 344 (I)
Designated: July 20, 1937 Decommissioned: October 6, 1943
Original northern terminus: Lake of Three Fires State Park; it was extended to Conway on October 11, 1938
Original southern terminus: IA 3 (later IA 2) at Bedford
Paving history: There were no paved segments.
Replaced by: IA 49 and IA 319 (multiplexed segment near Conway)
Iowa 344 (II)
Designated: December 16, 1943 Decommissioned: 2001
Original western terminus: State fish hatchery
Original eastern terminus: US 169 north of Mount Ayr
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the road was gravel at decommissioning (despite what post-1991 maps say) and remains that way today.
Replaced by: Local road (210th Street)

History
Designated: September 14, 1937, as a spur from Nashua to Bradford (which does not appear on many maps; it is an unincorporated town two miles east of Nashua) and the Little Brown Church.
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the entire road was paved in 1960.
Major alignment changes:
  • 1953: Extended eastward to US 63.

    Designated: November 9, 1937 Decommissioned: 1986
    Original western terminus: Nebraska state line at the west edge of Carter Lake
    Original eastern terminus: Nebraska state line at the east edge of Carter Lake; it connected to Abbott Drive in Omaha (IA 165 in Carter Lake) about a quarter-mile east of there.
    Paving history: The entire road was paved at the time of designation.
    Replaced by: City street (Locust Street). Like IA 165, it had no numbered counterpart in Omaha.

    Paving history: Unpaved at designation, it was paved in 1957.

    Original northwestern terminus: US 6 northwest of Davenport
    Original southeastern terminus: IA 122 (I) at the "Five Points" intersection (where Division Street, Locust Street, and Hickory Grove Road meet) in Davenport
    Paving history: The entire road was paved at the time of designation.
    Replaced by: City street (Hickory Grove Road). This was formerly a segment of US 6 (and US 32 before that), and was co-signed with City US 6 for a while.

    Iowa 356 (I)
    Designated: April 27, 1938 Decommissioned: 1982
    Original northern terminus: IA 304 (later IA 78) in southern Keokuk County
    Original southern terminus: Packwood
    Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the post-1948 alignment was paved in 1955.
    Major alignment changes: In 1948, IA 356 became a 6-mile spur from IA 1 in northern Jefferson County westward into Packwood. It was truncated at the east city limits of Packwood in 1980.
    Replaced by: Unnumbered gravel county roads and a portion of present-day County Road V63 (original alignment); Packwood city streets and County Road H17 (at decommissioning)

    Iowa 356 (II)
    Designated: 2000 Decommissioned: July 1, 2003
    This was an unsigned designation for a segment of US 71 (as pointed out by Mike Ehret) between Arnolds Park and Milford, after US 71 was realigned along a new four-lane bypass in 2000. Although no marker appeared on the state highway map, between 2001 and 2003 it appeared as a very small black smudge next to the red line that represents US 71. It is now known as Terrace Park Boulevard.

    Original western terminus: Blockton
    Original eastern terminus: IA 25 in southeastern Taylor County
    Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the road was paved in 1963.
    Replaced by: County road (now numbered J55)
    Iowa 358
    Designated: September 27, 1938 Decommissioned: May 2, 1980
    Original northern terminus: US 18 on the Palo Alto/Kossuth county line
    Original southern terminus: IA 44 (I) on the Palo Alto/Kossuth County line west of Whittemore
    Paving history: The entire road was paved at the time of designation.
    Major alignment change: In 1962, IA 358 and IA 44 switched alignments, as IA 358 took IA 44's old alignment through Whittemore. In 1964 IA 358 became a spur from the junction of US 18 and IA 44 (later IA 15) in western Kossuth County southward into Whittemore.

  • Iowa 359

    Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the road was paved in 1960.
    Replaced by: County Roads S27 (north-south segment) and D38 (southernmost mile into Buckeye)
