| What began as a simple two-lane city street in Dubuque in the early 1980s (the Northwest Arterial) was taken over by the DOT in September 1995 and designated as IA 32. With the completion of the extension to US 52/IA 3, studies are now underway for a 6-mile Southwest Arterial between US 20 at Seippel Road and US 61/151 near Olde Davenport Road. This project is not in the current transportation plan, but the city of Dubuque's website has a page with more information. |

It was pulled back to the eventual junction with IA 9 north of Sibley on December 19, 1933. On January 4, 1938, IA 33 was extended to the Minnesota state line south of Bigelow, MN.
