Designated: January 7, 1931 Decommissioned: 1995 Original northern terminus: US 30 in State Center Original southern terminus: Rhodes; on December 1, 1935, it was straightened to end at the IA 88 (later IA 64, then IA 330) diagonal due south of State Center after that city objected to the Highway Commission's plans to decommission the road and reassign the number to the Rhodes-Melbourne spur. It was truncated at County Road E63 (formerly IA 235 and IA 245) in 1989. Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the segment south of IA 235 was paved in 1956. Designated: December 1, 1935 (number approved August 20) Decommissioned: 1966 Original western terminus: Rhodes Original eastern terminus: IA 234 in southwestern Marshall County Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the entire road was paved in 1956. Replaced by: IA 245 (II) to avoid conflict with I-235. It replaced part of IA 234 after it was straightened south of State Center. On July 10, 1935, this road (along with an extension eastward to the IA 88 diagonal at Melbourne) was numbered as IA 234 after the existing 234 was supposed to have been decommissioned; the IA 235 number was assigned to a spur route to Pilot Knob State Park (which eventually became IA 332 instead). However, after State Center objected to its decommissioning, the existing IA 234 remained on the state highway system and the new IA 235 was truncated to end at 234 rather than Melbourne. |
