Iowa 200
Designated: December 1, 1930 (number approved November 11) Decommissioned: July 1, 2003
Original northern terminus: Keystone; it was truncated at the south city limits in 1980.
Original southern terminus: US 30 in southwestern Benton County
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the road was paved in 1959.
Replaced by: County Road V42

Original northern terminus: US 30, later US 30/218, in southeastern Benton County
Original southern terminus: Norway
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the road was paved in 1958 (on a new alignment where it entered Norway from the east instead of from the west).
Replaced by: County Road W24; it made a turn to the west before ending and continued as County Road E66.

Original eastern terminus: Shellsburg
Paving history: Unpaved at designation, the road remained gravel at decommissioning (but was paved shortly afterward).

Length: 10½ miles/17 kilometers
Northern terminus: IA 2 north of Moulton
Southern terminus: Missouri state line; it continues southward as MO 202 before ending at US 63 in Lancaster, MO.

Paving history: The entire road was paved at the time of designation.
Notes
At the same time IA 202 was designated, Missouri promoted a state secondary highway south of the state line to MO 202. (Most north-south highways in Missouri are odd-numbered, according to the Missouri Highways Page, but 148 and 202 — both of which connect with Iowa highway numbers of the same name — are exceptions.)

Original western terminus: US 71 in Milford
Original eastern terminus: Terrill
Paving history: There were no paved segments at designation. The post-1949 alignment was gravel until it was paved in 1955.
Major alignment changes: In 1949, IA 203 was changed from an east-west spur to a north-south spur connecting IA 9 near Superior and Terrill.
Replaced by: County Road A34 (original east-west segment); County Road N14 (at decommissioning)

Original northern terminus: Garden Grove
Original southern terminus: IA 2 in eastern Decatur County

Original eastern terminus: US 69 in southern Warren County
Paving history: The original segment was unpaved at decommissioning (but has since been paved); the post-1958 alignment was gravel at first but paved by the time I-35 opened.
Major alignment change: In 1958, it became a spur from I-35 (present-day exit #43) eastward into New Virginia, making a turn to the north before ending (at the time of its decommissioning, County Road R45 continued from its former east endpoint).
Replaced by: County road, now numbered G76 (in 1958); County Road G76 (at decommissioning)

Note: The Highway Commission approved IA 208 as a spur from Lamont to US 20 on November 11, 1930, and the extension north and eastward to Backbone State Park was approved on November 12. The entire road was not signed until December 1.

    Designated: September 15, 1934 (number approved May 22), from Dysart to Marengo. This replaced IA 73 (I), part of which replaced IA 212 (I) only nine months earlier.
    Paving history: At designation, the only paved segment was from Belle Plaine to the Benton/Iowa county line.
  • 1937: Paved segment from US 30 to Belle Plaine added to highway
  • 1955: Last segment, from the Benton/Iowa county line to Marengo, upgraded from bituminous to paved

  • Major alignment changes:
  • October 1934: North-south segment between Dysart and Belle Plaine superseded by IA 21
  • October 26, 1937: Extended westward from Belle Plaine, along former US 30 segments, to the relocated US 30 east of Tama.
  • May 27, 1980: Truncated north of the junction with IA 21; the standalone segment in Tama County became County Road E66. A small piece (less than 0.1 mile) in Benton County was still maintained by the state as unsigned IA 940 until July 1, 2003. (Terminus photos)

    Major alignment change: IA 216 became an east-west spur in 1951, replacing its old gravel road alignment; its west end was moved to a point about midway between Centerville and Cincinnati.
